The Name "MATTERS"

The name “MATTERS” was derived from two ideas.

The word “matter” in classical physics and general chemistry means any substance that has mass and takes up space. By this, we refer to our carefully sourced and developed materials: from upcycled fabric from the fast-fashion industry’s textile wastes to organic textiles produced with ecologically grown methods. Each and every product and its production has been meticulously sought to reduce the consumption of raw materials,

preserve freshwater, refrain from the use of chemicals and produce less excess waste.

The verb “matter” also means being important or having significance. We strongly believe that “our action matters” and by “acknowledging what matters” can bring change. At Matters, the suppliers and factories have to meet our sustainability criteria. We strive to create a conscious cycle that minimizes the environmental impacts while benefiting everyone, from our customers, manufacturers, distributors to local communities.

"Matters" Concept Narrative

The Lifetime of All Beings

The circular configuration narrates relationships between time and space. The placement of each letter is based on 30 degrees with 12 angle units constructively following the clock, an object which represents time for all beings and our very own existence.

Everything we use and rely on was originally the product of nature. This clock portrays how nature takes its time in providing the resources for us. It also represents our carefully curated process in each product, from growing and sourcing the organic materials, natural dyeing, to upcycling. Every step takes time and effort to find the best way we can harmonize with nature.

This clock also means that MATTERS can be with you throughout every season and occasion. Our timeless design is made to last.

Firefly

Symbolic Narrative

Shine Brighter Together

A single firefly’s glow could be a guidance in the dark, but together, their tiny specks of light can illuminate the night. Sustainability is a lifestyle that even an individual change could still make a difference; but together with our community, the impact we leave will be significant. From the locals, distributors, manufacturers, to users, everyone matters at Matters.

Thrive in Lively Nature

Fireflies are usually found in an abundant environment with lush long grass, near the water or the warm humid forest. Just like how humans are dependent on nature, we cannot thrive in a polluted environment. A breath of fresh air, the cooling splash of water, the touch of grass when we walk bare feet, these moments when we connect with nature can also make us feel alive.

The Hope That Inspires

The illuminating glow of a firefly also represents hope - like the light that guides you through the darkest times. They shine as they journey through the night, attracting other fireflies to shine together. This reminds us to be confident in our choices, never lose hope when trying to create positive changes, and we could inspire others along the way.

Our Production

We are based in Bangkok, Thailand where all our products are designed, prototyped, and produced.

By doing so, we aim to reduce  the carbon footprint of our supply chain.

Under our production line, MATTERS products combine ethical sourcing, sustainability and durability for less environmental impact.

Recycling & Upcycling

Recycling and upcycling are key factors in our sustainable solution. At MATTERS, we strive to embrace circular fashion under the concept of circular economy.

By using recycled textile, our collections reduce the consumption of virgin raw materials for production, resulting in less CO2 emission, less water usage, and less harmful chemicals as we abstain from dyeing process.

Our fabrics have been certified by  well-known and globally trusted certifications for product safety and sustainability — Global Recycled Standard (GRS),  Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS), and STANDARD 100 by OEKO-TEX®.

No Toxic Chemical Dyeing

At MATTERS we try to preserve natural colors from original fiber and abstain from re-dyeing recycled fabrics as we believe that the colors are unique in their very own way.

We work to ensure that our sourced colored fabrics and fibers are certified by STANDARD 100 by OEKO-TEX®, where products have been tested for harmful substances to protect your health. This label certifies that every component of the product, from the fabric to the thread and accessories, has been rigorously tested against a list of up to 350 toxic chemicals.

We also strive to preserve folk wisdom of natural and chemical-free dye conducted by local communities in Korat, Thailand. Vibrant pigments from natural materials such as leaves, roots, bark, and flowers are imprinted in our linen collection, giving each and every fabric its own unique color.

Natural Fiber

Our Nature’s Closet Collection is made from plant-based natural fibers that are ecologically grown. Natural fiber are more environmentally friendly and ethical than synthetic fabrics as their production require less water and energy, are processed with less or no harmful chemicals, and are biodegradable.

Common examples of plant-based natural fibers include cotton, silk, linen, hemp, rayon (modal), and lyocell.

Our knitted collection, made from organic cotton, is also certified by the Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS), which ensures clothing has been held to the highest standards of sustainability and ethics throughout the entire production process.

Responsible Production & Ethical Workplace

As we may rely on machines to manufacture our products, we try to source suppliers and factories that meet our sustainability criteria. We support suppliers and factories that use renewable energy (solar) in their production.

We strive to enhance our working conditions to ensure our employees' physical and mental health and safety.
We are committed to making sure that every person in our value chain is treated with dignity and respect, and that all hearts and hands that make these collections happen are fairly compensated.
