Sustainability

Driven to Make a Difference

The fashion industry is the second biggest polluter of freshwater resources on the planet. More than 150 billion garments are produced annually, enough to provide 20 new garments to every person on the planet.

We have noticed that it takes 2,700 liters of water to make one t-shirt and unfortunately 20% of industrial water pollution in the world comes from treatment and dyeing of textiles. Researches have shown that the textile industry may consume a quarter of the global carbon supply by 2050.

It is not just about offering environmentally friendly and socially responsible products, at MATTERS we strive to inform and inspire the global community to embrace a sustainable lifestyle.

# SMALL ACT THAT MATTERS

We strongly believe that “our action matters” and by “acknowledging what matters” can bring change. At MATTERS, the suppliers and factories have to meet our sustainability criteria. We strive to create a conscious cycle that minimizes the environmental impacts while benefiting everyone, from our customers, manufacturers, distributors to local communities.

MATTERS Hang Tag and String

Our hang tangs are made from 100% recycled paper. The process reduces the usage of energy, water, and lowers carbon emissions than the manufacturing of virgin fibre paper.

Recycling also helps reduce the amount of waste to landfill – as paper can be recycled 4 to 5 times.

The yarns of the hang tags are also made from 100% recycled cotton with no chemical dyeing.

MATTERS Doll

MATTERS acknowledges that the cutting stage of garment manufacturing creates an amount of fabric wastage. Therefore, all fabric scraps from our collection's cutting are gathered and sent to a group of handcraft elderlies. The leftover fabrics are then hand sewn one-by-one into cute, little pieces of MATTERS Limited Edition Dolls.

MATTERS strives to give back to both our community and nature.

MATTERS Second Life Collection: Hand-knitted Tank Top Production

Deadstock fabrics or yarns are essentially fashion industry leftovers — surplus from a fashion brand or textile mill's production process due to overproduction, quality issues, or minor flaws. In our Second Life Collection, MATTERS have decided to give these deadstock yarn a new life; materials otherwise would have ended up in landfills or burnt.

Our tank top has been meticulously hand-knitted; up to 330 minutes go into the production of each an every piece. Knitting, has played an effective role in further reducing waste, as we abstain pattern cutting process leaving zero-waste.
